Having period symptoms but no period

Are you having period symptoms but no period? If yes, you should know that this can happen for a number of reasons. Some of the main reasons will be discussed below in the following article to help you understand more.

Many healthy women experience painful menstruation cramps, a sign of a normal reproductive cycle. However, there are many other menstruation symptoms that you could experience such as back and abdominal pain, irritability, mood swings, bloating, headache, fatigue, sore breasts, water retention, and food cravings.

Here are some of the reasons for having period symptoms but no period:

You could be experiencing symptoms without the bleeding if you are sexually active and engaging in unprotected sex. It could be that you have conceived if you are trying to get pregnant. Most females experience period-like symptoms if they conceive or around the time when menstruation is due because the body is preparing for pregnancy.

Implantation is another reason. This happens if the sperm fertilizes an egg and it’s trying to move out of the fallopian tube to the uterus where it will attempt to attach itself to the lining. It is possible to experience period symptoms without bleeding during this implantation process. You could also experience slight bleeding with light brown or pink color from the implantation, which is different from the heavy, bright red bleeding that one experiences in the menstruation cycle.

Now, if you are not sexually active and you are not trying to conceive, you could be experiencing the period symptoms because of ovulation. Your ovulation will occur around two weeks before the start of the actual bleeding. This will cause you to experience pain within the lower abdomen, menstrual cramps or tender breasts.

Hormonal imbalance is another reason. Women with eating disorders, thyroid gland disorders, glandular problems, and so on, are more likely to have irregular periods or missed menstrual cycle.

Some women who suffer from polycystic ovarian syndrome, a serious disorder that is caused by hormonal problems, can also have period symptoms without bleeding. This syndrome will cause women to suffer from weight gain, abdominal cramps, depression, etc. all of which are similar to the period signs.

Some of the other reasons include obesity, amenorrhea, acne, pre-existing medical illnesses and conditions, stress, psychological conditions, emotional imbalances, and birth control pills.

These are the most common causes or reasons why some women are having period symptoms but no period. Bear in mind that any of them can be signs of pregnancy if you are trying to conceive. If you have any doubts at all about your condition, you should discuss them with your gynecologist or doctor to not only ease your mind but to get the best treatment.

  1. My last period was on 20th aug. on the 9th of sept me and my bf had dry sex but he did not ejaculate and we were in our underwear. My next period is due on the 17 of september but it had not came. Am i pregnant?

    1. Hi , If i understand you correctly you had no genital contact, and without any genital contact there is no risk of pregnancy. Other reason can delay/skip your cycle such as new diet, new gym routine and all kind of stress. If you are uncomfortable with your situation you can always set an appointment with yout physician to get some answers !

      Good luck
