Why do you have long menstrual cycle?

Short and long menstrual cycles are not normal. But how do you know if yours take a little bit longer than usual? Why does it happen and what can you do about it? The common reasons why it happens are as follows:

1. Hormonal changes

Women are more prone to hormonal changes than men. Both small and big things could affect a woman’s mood. If there is a major change in your life that could have brought you stress, anxiety, and depression and you’re being treated for it, a longer menstrual period can be expected.

2. Sudden change in birth control pills.

Birth control pills changes a woman’s menstrual cycle in many ways. If you have suddenly switched to another brand or to an entirely different method, high are the chances that it is the one that is causing your abnormally long period.

3. Changes in sexual activities.

Engaging in intimate relations can also affect menstrual cycles. If you used to be very active then you suddenly stopped, then that is the most likely culprit.

4. Certain dysfunctions

There are certain diseases, syndromes, and physical conditions that can directly affect a woman’s monthly cycle. If you suspect of any illness, then you must see your doctor right away. Clear up any issue with your health provider and be sure to get the necessary treatment for it.

These are the common reasons why a woman’s menstrual cycle gets longer than usual. However, you must not compare your cycle with that of another person. Every woman is different, as much as her cycle is different than yours. Some women experience a 35-day cycle and it is normal for them. Menstrual cycles do not strictly span 28 days, although that is the most ideal length. It is best that you seek medical advice if you think you are suffering from any abnormality in your monthly period.
