Hi, I had a surgical abortion in September last year and had bleeding and large blood clots discharge for more than 3 months, In January 1st, I consulted and doctor and after some tests found out the procedure was not properly done the first time and had a second procedure, the bleeding stopped and blood clots stopped, Now I started seeing my period on January 22, Usually my period last four days but I still have have minor bleeding/stains which is 7 days now… Please is this normal? Or is it something to be worried about.

    1. Hello Suncerinza, following what happened to you this might be normal. However your period might regularize soon.

    1. Hello Shirley, the bleeding you experienced a day after your abortion was not as a result of a period but rather because of the abortion process.

    I had medical abortion on 23 of December 2017 ..a week later doctor said I have retained products left of around 15 mm according to ultrasound scan .doctor gave me another set of medications ..since 23 of December I started bleeding and it’s been ,2 Feb 2018 I m still. Bleeding ..I had my recent scan which shows no retained products ..but I m still bleeding quite continuously since my abortion on 23 Dec…what is this bleeding ..should I worry …when will I see my periods ..I can distinguish if these are periods since I haven’t stopped bleeding sine then !     1. Hello Kiran, if this is continuous bleeding that hasn’t stopped it is clearly as a result of the abortion procedure (whether orally or by D&C) and not as a result of a period.

    I had my medical abortion on Dec 27th and the process continued till Jan 10th and I got my first period on Jan 25th but I am still bleeding it’s almost been 10 days.

  7. I had a medical abortion 10years ago, it got ruptured which lead to my doing C-section to remove the foetus. But for the past three months, I have been having pain in my left lower abdomen, I went for an ultrasound today, I was told there are indication of an incomplete abortion.
    My period have been regular all these years and I do have cramps before the period, but the cramps continue with a stinging pain this month.
    What could be the problem please.

    1. Hello Tola, take a pregnancy test to see if you are still pregnant. However after an abortion your period will take a while to return.

    1. Hello Sana, your cycle can return anywhere between 3-6 weeks post abortion. Thereafter you will be better able to track your ovulation.

    Had a medical abortion on nov 23 2017, started bleeding 3days after and bleeding stopped 1wk after. Had my menstruation on 31st of dec and second menstruation on 28 of jan. I had an medication abortion done on nov 10 2017 I cant remember how much I was bleeding for when It stopped (is this considered a first period?) it wasn’t until January 13 2018 when I got another period, this one having the whole pregnancy actually happen. I didn’t get my period feb 13 like i expected to it’s been 4 days late. Am I actually late or pregnant or is my body still not back to having a normal period? I can feel cramps and sore breasts just not the bleeding.

    1. Hello Jen, take a pregnancy test if you think you are pregnant. However in any normal case your period should return soon.

    Well I had medical abortion done on 30dec 2017 at 10weeks I got my periods on 20jan which were slightly heavy and painful as compared to previous I usually gets my periods in 26-28days Max still didnot get although having mild back ache .can I get pregnant right way or I might experience irregular periods .when should I do pregnancy test

    1. Hello Nina, yes you can get pregnant right away after an abortion as you still will ovulate and be fertile.

  15. I had an surgical abortion on Jan 3 2018. Had light bleeding for a few days afterwards. Then had light bleeding 5 weeks afterwards but only really lasted a day or two. Then had light bleeding last week (6 weeks post abortion) but only lasted one day again. Is this normal or should I take a pregnancy test again? Is the pregnancy hormone still in and would create a false positive?

  18. I had a medical abortion on November 5 2017 and saw my monthly menstruation on December 10 2017. On January 2 2018, my menstruation appeared and lasted till January 6..That same January on 28 my period suddenly reappeared and flew for just a day.. Up till now, I’m yet to see my period..

    I often feel to vomit and cramps on my Tummy. Am I pregnant again?

  19. I did the abortion pills on December 22, 2017 and I bleed for 7 days.
    I had my first cycle after the abortion on January 25, everything was normal
    Now Im waiting for my 2nd cycle which was supposed to be here on the 21 of February, still no blood just period acne and stomach cramps, is this normal.
    I have sworn off men so for sure I have had no semen enter my vagina since before the pregnancy. My girl and I just want me to healthy and not worried about this damn curse of a cycle😟😞😐😢 anyway please let me know what you think! Thanks

  20. I have an abortion with cytotec and after the abortion my menses return 6-7weeks but when my menses come for the first day it comes lighter but plenty small after that it is coming small ,small with no cramps and it is not paining me to is this normall

    1. Hello Favour, after an abortion your period will take a while to regulate to what is what like before.
